Robots Are Poised To Take Over 800 Million Jobs Worldwide – Is Yours In Danger?

According to a new report by McKinsey & Co., as many as 800 million workers worldwide may lose their jobs to automation and robots by 2030. That’s more than a fifth of the world’s labor force.

McKinsey said Wednesday that the rise of robots will impact developed and emerging countries alike, and everyone from machine operators, to fast food workers, and back office employees will be among those displaced by automation in the workplace.

The good news for those displaced by robots is that there should be jobs for them to transition to, though they will likely have to learn new skills to complete. According to the report, new jobs will include health workers for aging populations, technology specialists, and even gardeners.

“We’re all going to have to change and learn how to do new things over time,” said Michael Chui, a San Francisco-based partner at McKinsey.

If the rise of robots happens less rapidly than expected, some 400 million workers will likely still be replaced by automation within the same timeframe.
